Kirovenergo performs successful initial test of new transformer software

Russia, Volga Region: The branch of IDGC of Center and Volga Region – Kirovenergo successfully tested operation of a new software product, intended to increase the reliability of electricity supply and the service life of power transformers.
Until recently, there was no tool to help determine the time of safe operation for a transformer with the load over 100%.
With the aim to solve this problem, a new computer programme ‘Forecast of permissible overload for oil-immersed power transformers’ was developed as part of the complex research and development work of IDGC of Center and Volga Region under the contract with the Vyatka State University.
The product allows definition of the permissible overload duration depending on the load and the temperature of power transformers and the environment, as well as other parameters, reports Newsler.
Initial performance verification programme was carried out in two transformer substations. The trials are expected to be complete in spring 2015, after which a special board will decide whether to recommend this programme and commercialise it.
