India, Chennai: Velachery has been hit by intermittent power cuts over the past week due to faults at the Velachery substation.
According to the residents, the problems with electricity supply have become a recurring phenomenon since malls and hotels started functioning in the area. The authorities blame breaker faults in the Velachery substation.
The area went without power supply a few days ago because of a fire in the substation, reports The Hindu.
A senior official of Tangedco said that the three main transformers in the substation are old and get damaged frequently because of power overload. Authorities are proposing to replace all the breakers inside the power transformers to rectify the problem, according to the official.
