USA, Indiana: NIPSCO is investing $1.1 billion in massive modernisation programme which involves replacement of around 10% of the company’s electric transmission system.
Mike Hooper, NIPSCO senior vice president for major projects and electric field operations, outlined the programme at a new NIPSCO substation under construction in southern Porter County.
The substation will feature new power equipment technology which will be installed throughout the system, reports NWI Times.
Currently, concrete bases are being poured to hold power transformers and switching equipment and Hooper commented that the substation project is a microcosm of the entire modernisation which will reduce the overall risks of outages by about 30%.
“When there is an outage we will be able to use technology to get people back on more quickly, rather than just brute force manpower.” Hooper said.
