Ameren fortifies substations and upgrades TC power grid

USA, Tazewell County, IL: Ameren Illinois is upgrading the power grid that supplies electricity to homes and businesses in Tazewell County to meet growing needs.
The company is enhancing two substations that serve approximately 13,000 customers in Tazewell County and installing a high-capacity power line. The company serves approximately 63,000 customers in Tazewell County, said company’s spokesman Brian Bretsch.
“Not only is the grid evolving, but the needs and expectations of our customers are changing along with it,” said Bretsch. “That’s why the enhancements we’re making today to install new technology and to fortify our system in order to meet customers’ energy needs in the future. Just think about how communications have evolved in a short period time. The utility industry is going through a similar evolution. We not only have to ensure that our physical infrastructure can keep pace, but we have to open the doors to provide our customers with information they can access to make decisions about how to use energy efficiently” said Bretsch.
A new substation is now under construction south of Allentown Road. The substation will be completed in the summer of 2017.
The company is expanding the size of the Koch Substation on South Second Street in Pekin by adding a second transformer.
