Russia, Karachay–Cherkessia: As part of the MRSK investment programme in 2014, the Arkhyz substation will undergo large-scale reconstruction involving the replacement of the main power transformer.

The substation was built in the 1960s and it supplies electricity to consumers in the village resort Arkhyz in Zelenchuksky District as well as about 15 other tourist centres and military units. The need for expansion arose due to opening of the new all-season ski resort Arkhyz last year. The substation is to serve as a backup power source for the ski resort, writes Energy Land.

The reconstruction will involve replacement of the 2.5 MVA power transformer to two 4 MVA ones.

When choosing new equipment for the substation, the experts considered its geographical location, the climate and high seismic risk. All the equipment to be installed will be able to withstand an earthquake up to 9 on the Richter scale.

Implementation of the expansion project for the Arkhyz substation is scheduled for completion in 2015.
