India, Lucknow: Three power transformers at the Sarojininagar transmission centre tripped on Saturday afternoon causing outage in the city in the sweltering heat.

According to the power officials, the incident occurred when a 160 MVA transformer and two 100 MVA transformers developed technical problems.

This had a cascading effect on nearly half-a-dozen substations. A similar problem had occurred at the Sarojininagar transmission centre about a week ago, which had also hit power supply in the city, reports The Times of India.

UPPCL’s public relation officer Akhilesh Singh, said: “At around 1.35 p.m., sparking was reported in the 160 MVA transformer of Sarojininagar transmission centre. When officials tried to detect the fault in the transformer and opened it, two transformers of 100 MVA capacity each tripped resulting in the current crisis. The problem persisted till 5 p.m., after which normalcy was restored.”
