Spain / German North Sea: On 18 April, the BorWin epsilon offshore converter platform began its journey from the Dragados Offshore shipyard in Cádiz, Spain, marking a key milestone in this wind energy project. Weighing over 12,000 t, the platform is equipped with Siemens Energy’s HVDC technology.

The platform was transported aboard the Iron Lady and will soon be transferred to the Pioneering Spirit, the world’s largest construction vessel, for final deployment at sea.

Commissioned by TenneT, Germany’s transmission system operator, the platform was delivered by a Dragados Offshore – Siemens Energy consortium under a 2020 contract. The BorWin epsilon platform will handle 900 MW of capacity, significantly enhancing offshore wind power integration into the European energy system.

This deployment is a major step toward achieving Germany’s renewable energy goals and strengthening cross-border power infrastructure in the North Sea region.
