Transmission Company of Nigeria receives funds from government for power equipment upgrade

Nigeria: The Federal Government has provided the sum of NGN 300 million ($ 1.9 million) to the Transmission Company of Nigeria to improve the state of power transmission infrastructure in the country.
“The TCN has advertised some of the rehabilitation projects to ensure effective evacuation of energy to the distributions companies.” said the Director-General, Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Benjamin Dikki adding “We are delighted that all abandoned projects have been brought into operation. Those facilities will go a long way in boosting power supply.”
The Chief Executive Officer, IKEDC, Mr. Abiodun Ajifowobaje, said energy supply had been a major challenge to the company, according to Punch.
Ajifowobaje said that over NGN 1 billion ($ 6.2 million) had been spent on various projects by the company, adding that it was only getting about 345 MW compared to the 1,257 MW maximum demand.
“We have installed and completed all rehabilitated transformers and pending projects within the company. We are planning to engage other sources of power supply through embedded generation and others.” he said.
