After 15 years in darkness power restored in Ondo

FG commissions 132 kV transmission line and substation in Ode-Erinje, reconnecting over 2,000 communities to the national grid after prolonged blackout.

Nigeria, Ondo: The federal government has commissioned a 132 kV transmission line and substation in Ode-Erinje, Okitipupa, restoring electricity to Ondo South after up to 15 years of blackout. The project, valued at $5 M (N8 B), was executed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

At the inauguration, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Niger Delta Minister Abubakar Momoh, emphasised the project’s role in boosting socioeconomic development and job creation.

Over 2,000 communities in Okitipupa, Ilaje, Irele, and Ese-Odo are expected to benefit. The substation reconnects the region to the national grid, enabling businesses to resume operations.

NDDC CEO Dr. Samuel Ogbuku noted the infrastructure supports small industries and enhances regional growth. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and community leaders praised the federal initiative and pledged to safeguard the facility.
