USA, New York, Staten Island: On 30 March, early in the morning, nearly 3,000 Con Edison customers lost power on Staten Island, following a burning transformer report. The outage impacted areas including New Springville, Willowbrook, and Bulls Head, according to Con Edison’s outage map.

Residents reported a smell of smoke near Rockland Avenue and Keating Place, where Con Edison crews worked to assess the issue. Craig Hanft, a local resident, described how the power flickered before going out completely while he was cooking dinner.

The affected transformer was blackened but did not show visible flames as crews inspected the damage. Meanwhile, traffic lights in the surrounding area were either out or flashing red, causing disruptions on nearby roads.

According to Con Edison, power was fully restored the same day just after 8:30 p.m. The utility company has not yet provided details on what caused the transformer issue.
