Canada, Alberta: Acciona Energía has begun generating clean power from its 280 MW Forty Mile wind farm in southern Alberta, Canada. The project is which is progressing as planned and is set to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. It is located about 50 km south-west of Medicine Hat, Alberta and consists of 49 Nordex turbines. It will be one of the 10 largest wind farms in Canada and the largest facility of its kind that Acciona Energía has built to date in North America.

The latest announcement marks the commissioning of the first nine turbines, already completed and connected to Alberta’s provincial power grid. The rest of the units will be gradually connected over the next few months as they are completed and commissioned, customary for wind projects of this size. The project is Acciona Energía’s fifth in Canada and, after completion, will bring the company’s total installed capacity in North America to over 3 GW.

Construction of the project has generated around 250 jobs and will maintain up to 25 permanent jobs when fully operational. It is also expected to bring new tax revenue to the local economy for decades.
