Australia: After more than 40 years in the energy sector, Graeme York, Chief Operating Officer for Generation at ENGIE ANZ, is retiring. His last day was 16 May 2025, marking the end of a long and diverse global career.

York began his journey in 1983 with Victoria’s State Electricity Commission, starting as a junior engineer. Over time, he rose through the ranks, managing 120 people within nine years, though leadership was not his original goal. His early roles took him across the La Trobe Valley, and eventually to the newly built Loy Yang B Power Station, where he began his international career with Edison Mission Energy.

He later served as CEO of Hazelwood Power Station, before moving to London as Head of Operations for International Power, which was later acquired by ENGIE. York spent 18 years overseas, including leadership roles in Bangkok and Singapore, before returning to Australia in 2023.

During his final years with ENGIE, he led projects like the Yuri Renewable Hydrogen Project and managed gas assets such as Pelican Point Power Station in South Australia.

Reflecting on his career, York highlighted the industry’s constant evolution and global scope as sources of excitement and growth.
