Poland, Łódź: Hitachi Energy is expanding its transformer production facility in Łódź, Poland, as part of a broader effort to address growing demand for electricity infrastructure across the European Union. The new 5,000-m2 building is expected to increase the site’s output of insulation and transformer components by 50 %, contributing to regional and global supply chain needs.

The investment comes at a time when energy systems are under increasing strain. Rising electricity consumption, combined with geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions, has placed additional pressure on infrastructure and delivery timelines.

The Łódź campus, operational for 100 years, includes four production plants and two engineering centres employing over 2,000 people. The planned expansion, scheduled for completion in 2026, will incorporate automated systems and advanced machinery to improve efficiency and shorten lead times.

According to Norbert Beatrix, Hub Manager Europe for Hitachi Energy’s Transformers Business, insulation components are central to grid reliability and require precise engineering. The expansion is expected to create over 100 new jobs in the region and support ongoing energy system transitions.

This investment is part of Hitachi Energy’s broader global manufacturing and R&D program, which totals more than $6 B.

The Łódź site has also made environmental progress under the company’s Sustainability 2030 plan, achieving a 90 % reduction in carbon emissions, zero waste to landfill, and a 50 % reduction in water use since 2019.
