Nigeria, Ogoni: The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has marked a major milestone in its mission to improve power infrastructure in Ogoniland by conducting a technical inspection of key transformer units in China.

A delegation led by Project Coordinator Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey recently carried out a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at JSB Zhejiang Jiangshan Transformer Co., Ltd. in Jiangshan, China. The inspection, conducted from 22 – 24 May 2025, involved the assessment of four 60 MVA power transformers and six 300 kVA earthing transformers, destined for the Bodo and Wiiyaakara substations.

According to a statement from the Project Coordination Office, the transformers successfully met all required specifications and standards, clearing the path for their shipment to Nigeria.

This development follows the earlier arrival of 40 containers of tested power equipment from India and China at the Wiiyaakara Substation, reinforcing HYPREP’s steady progress in delivering a dependable electricity supply to the Ogoni region.

The Ogoni Power Project is a critical component of broader efforts to revive local infrastructure and stimulate socio-economic growth in the area.

HYPREP’s continued work highlights its commitment to ensuring that the equipment used in the region’s power network is both reliable and tailored to local needs.
