Spain, Castellón: bp and Iberdrola have awarded the Toledo-based company Imefy the contract to manufacture and supply the transformer for the largest renewable hydrogen production plant in Spain (25 MW), to be located at bp’s refinery in Castellón. Imefy is headquartered in Los Yébenes, a municipality in the province of Toledo.

The company will manufacture, supply and supervise the assembly and commissioning of the three-phase transformer, with 37 MVA of power and a 66/30 kV transformation ratio. The transformer will be supplied in the first quarter of 2026.

The project is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026 with an investment of more than €70 million. In later phases of the project, the green hydrogen could be used in key industries which are difficult to decarbonise in the Valencian Community, such as ceramics, to replace the natural gas used in their processes, in chemical industries and in heavy transport.
