Raccoon sparks power outage but miraculously survives
A curious raccoon caused a serious power outage by climbing onto a transformer in Rochester but miraculously survived the shocking encounter.

USA, Minnesota, Rochester: A daring raccoon managed to trigger a major power outage in a southeastern Minnesota city but remarkably lived through the ordeal.
In the morning of 26 March, Rochester Public Utilities reported a blackout in the northeast side of the city leaving over 2,000 customers without electricity. Fortunately, power was restored within an hour.
Utility officials identified the culprit as a raccoon that had climbed onto an electrical transformer. Later, RPU shared a photo of the unexpected troublemaker.
“We have a positive update on this morning’s outage – our curious little raccoon survived the encounter,” the municipal utility company announced. “That is not usually the case when animals come into contact with our infrastructure, so we are relieved this story has a good ending,” the company concluded.
The utility company extended its best wishes for the raccoon’s full recovery, acknowledging the unusual but fortunate outcome.
