France: A second suspected sabotage incident in two days has disrupted power on the French Riviera. On 25 May around 2 a.m., a fire at a substation in Nice caused an outage that left at least 45,000 homes without electricity. Authorities found broken doors and tyre marks at the scene, suggesting foul play.

The blackout affected Nice Airport, tram services, and nearby towns like Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Cagnes-sur-Mer. Power was restored later in the morning.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi condemned the act, while Deputy Mayor Gaël Nofri called it “probably of criminal origin.”

The incident follows a massive power cut in Cannes the previous day, which interrupted film festival events and left 160,000 homes without power.

An investigation into “organised arson” is underway, and officials plan to increase security around electrical infrastructure in the region.
