India New Delhi: Tata Projects has announced winning their first power T&D contract in Bangladesh.

The company has secured a 400 kV double circuit transmission line project valued at approximately $121 M (Rs 900 crore) from Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB).

This 120-km line project from Barapukuria to Bogura has been secured on turnkey basis, the company said in a release.

The project will be executed in 30 months and funding will be provided by EXIM Bank India under Indian Line of Credit, the company source added.

According to the statement, the Barapkuria-Bogura transmission line, when completed, is expected to result in expansion of high-voltage power transmission network in northern Bangladesh. The line will facilitate import of electricity from an Indian power plant located in Jharkhand, says in the release.

The entire transmission line will be constructed on pile foundation, Tata Projects said, adding that the line will be fully strung using high tension low sag (HTLS) conductor. This project is unique since such technologies have not yet been used in Bangladesh’s power T&D sector.

“We are proud to have secured this transmission line project in Bangladesh since it reaffirms our expertise and experience in executing world-class transmission and distribution projects. As reliable and world-class power transmission infrastructure is necessary for a nation’s development, we are keen to play a role in Bangladesh’s progress,” noted Desh Raj Pathak, Vice President – Projects (Transmission & Distribution), Tata Projects Ltd.
