The Netherlands, Wijk aan Zee: Next year, TenneT will connect the third and final 700 MW wind farm off the coast of North Holland. The grid operator has completed the onshore work in the IJmond region, and the placement of the new statue in the Sculpture Park “Een Zee van Staal” in Wijk aan Zee marked the transfer of the last work site in a special way.

Four years after the first underground drilling from the Westerhout estate in Beverwijk, the project for the connection of the offshore wind farms Hollandse Kust (noord), (west Alpha) and (west Beta) has been completed. Electricity cables have been installed at an average depth of 30 metres from sixteen work sites in Heemskerk, Beverwijk and Velsen, and a transformer station on Zeestraat in Wijk aan Zee has been built. All work areas have been restored and transferred back to the landowners.

Project director Jaap Nijland said: “In 2025, we will install the superstructure of the offshore socket on the base that is already 53 kilometres off the coast of Egmond aan Zee. We will then test the cable connection and the various systems.” The third and final connection will be ready at the end of 2025, after which operator RWE can connect the Oranjewind wind farm to the national high-voltage grid.
