Australia: Australian company Tilt Renewables has received the permit to proceed with the construction of its 288 MW Palmer Wind Farm in South Australia. The go-ahead by South Australia’s State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) was given to a version of the project that is 5000 hectares smaller than the original concept and with fewer turbines than initially planned.
The project will be located 50 kilometres east of Adelaide. It will be equipped with 40 turbines with a maximum tip height of 220 metres, instead of the earlier proposed 103 turbines totalling 300 MW. The plant will be able to generate electricity for 142000 homes and help offset 212000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
The project was originally approved in 2015. The permit was challenged by environmental groups and property owners, leading to a court battle that ended in 2019. Last year, the project was awarded a Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) agreement in a federal government tender.
