The UK, London: National Grid plc has announced the appointment of Zoë Yujnovich as its incoming Chief Executive, set to succeed John Pettigrew, who will retire on 16 November 2025 after nearly a decade at the helm. Zoë will officially join the Board as CEO Designate on 1 September 2025, ensuring a smooth leadership handover.

Following a thorough succession process, both the Board and Pettigrew agreed that the time is right for change. With a strong track record in the global energy sector, Yujnovich is seen as the ideal choice to lead the company through its next phase of growth.

Previously a senior executive at Shell, where she served as Integrated Gas and Upstream Director, Yujnovich has also held top roles at Rio Tinto, including CEO of the Iron Ore Company of Canada. She recently joined Unilever’s board as a Non-Executive Director.

Chair Paula Reynolds praised Pettigrew’s transformational leadership and welcomed Yujnovich as a visionary leader with deep industry expertise and global experience.

Pettigrew, who began his journey at National Grid as a graduate in 1991, expressed pride in his legacy and confidence in his successor. Yujnovich, in turn, said she was honoured by the appointment and eager to help National Grid drive progress in energy security, reliability, and sustainability across the UK and US.
