This is the fourth lesson in the Design of Distribution Transformers course and the second one on the Intermediate level.
This lesson covers the key parts that make up an oil-filled distribution transformer. The core and windings are the essential components - the core provides the magnetic path, while the windings generate the magnetic field. Other critical parts include the bushings, tank, and insulating oil. The tank contains the transformer and oil, which serves for both insulation and heat dissipation. Minor but important components are the heat sink, conservator, silica gel breather, commutator, and pressboard insulation. The quality of the core material, like laminated steel, is crucial for performance. Innovative voltage-regulated transformers can adjust output voltage at the load. The instructor addressed design calculations, material selection, and emerging core technologies. Overall, this lesson provided a comprehensive overview of the essential distribution transformer components and their roles.
