Transformer testing course – e-lesson #10: Applied voltage test

    Transformer testing course - e-lesson #10
    Course: Intermediate level

Hosted by: Balazs Sztari / Intermediate level

This is the 10th lesson in the Transformer Testing Course, covering the applied voltage test. The applied voltage test is a routine test to verify the AC voltage withstand strength of transformer terminals. The test involves applying AC voltage to all terminals of the winding, with no real current flowing through the winding. The test voltage must be a sine wave, applied for 60 seconds. The test connection can use a test transformer, resonant test system, or cascade transformer system. Compensation techniques may be used to reduce capacitive current. The transformer must be properly prepared, and the test is evaluated as a pass or fail based on the transformer's response.
