Transformer testing course – e-lesson #9 Switching Impulse Test

    Transformer Testing Course - e-lesson#9
    Course: Intermediate level

Hosted by: Balazs Sztari / Intermediate level

This is the ninth lesson in the Transformer Testing Course, covering the topic of switching impulse testing for power transformers. The switching impulse test verifies a transformer's insulation capability to withstand slow rise time transient voltages associated with switching operations. This test is particularly important for transformers connected to long power lines and high voltage networks. The lesson will discuss the relevant standards, key test parameters, and the test procedure, including connections, waveform control, and core saturation handling. Failure detection and interpretation of test results will also be covered, with examples provided from industry standards. This intermediate-level lesson builds on the previous basic and intermediate lessons in the course, with more advanced topics to come at the Master's level.
