Transformer Testing Course – e-lesson #8: Lightning impulse test (part II)

    Transf. testing course - e-lesson #8 illustration
    Course: Intermediate level

    Hosted by: Balazs Sztari

This is the second part of lightning impulse testing lesson, with focus on waveshape control and evaluation of oscillatory and high overshoot LI waveforms, including some examples of LI failure.

The lesson will provide an overview of relevant standards, discuss practical considerations for achieving optimal wave shapes, and explore solutions for dealing with non-standard wave shapes and tail time challenges. Examples of lightning impulse failures will be presented to illustrate common issues encountered during testing. The lesson aims to equip participants with a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in lightning impulse testing of power transformers.

    Unauthorized message

This is the continuation of Lesson #7, where the attendees had the opportunity to learn about the basics and standards of lightning impulse testing of power transformers. The timeframe of one lesson was not enough to cover this topic fully, therefore next lesson of Transformer Testing Course will be the second part of LI testing lesson. Based on most of the audience’s questions, this lesson will focus on the waveshape control and evaluation of high-overshoot and/or oscillatory LI waveforms.

It will contain some examples of LI failure with fault description.
