MAREK SZROT ET AL. – ON-SITE MODERNISATION OF POWER TRANSFORMERS
Taking a transformer from the substation to the factory for a repair or retrofit is a complex and costly project that involves many risks. In cases when transformers have already exceeded their estimated lifetime, such effort might not be justified.
This paper presents technical and economic aspects of one such case. What is the decision-making process regarding the repairs or modernisation of transformers that have already exceeded their planned lifetime? What is the diagnostic process related to the assessment of the technical condition before the repair, and how do we use these results to determine the scope of possible repairs and their cost-effectiveness? What is the scope of repair works that can be performed on site and what are the ways of verifying the quality of the completed works?
